Fae and Utsocknes

With the wife having a rare day off and the kids home I decided to take it a bit easy on the writing today. I did get a few hundred words in on the scene with The Party I started yesterday. I figured I'd delve into a bit of the world we are in again.

Like many fantasy worlds, this one is very segregated, from feudalism in Alland to racism in the rest of the continent. Those who don't come from Alland are referred to as utsocknes, which basically means someone born outside the kingdom. There is a great deal of distrust of people not born in Alland, a reason Drosboe Fall and his family are viewed with suspicion. Non-humans, no matter the race, are called fae as a form of an umbrella term. The ragman, heí, shapeshifter, and highlander are thusly all fae, even though they have little in common with each other. Some fae can use magic innately, while others are better at conjuring. The eí are a race of creatures with the common features that they have pointed ears and almond eyes, generally shorter than humans and slender. There are various forms of eí depending on where they live and what abilities they possess.

In any case, the world is very segregated and folks take little interest in those who do not resemble them.

Tomorrow I'm hoping for a big writing day.
